Another year has flown by, and the end of 2024 is fast approaching! Before we welcome a new year, we would love to share our reflections and highlights of this year. For the James Lind Alliance (JLA), 2024 has been a year of growth in many ways…
First, we would like to congratulate the 18 Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) that announced their Top 10s this year. The JLA is proud to have over 170 completed PSPs with Top 10s available on our website. That’s over 170 PSPs that have worked with people with lived and/or professional experience to identify the unanswered health and care research questions that matter most to them. Thank you to everyone who has been involved with these PSPs and participated in various ways – we look forward to sharing all the impact of this work!
We are delighted to share that of these 18 completed PSPs, the Critical Care Asia and Africa PSP’s Top 10 is our first published Top 10 based on priorities identified in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs). On the other hand, with a narrower geographical scope, we are pleased to share the completion of the Gorton Community PSP which identified priorities for the Gorton local community in Manchester on all aspects of health and wellbeing.
This year has also seen many new beginnings, as 26 new PSPs started the JLA process both in the UK and internationally. We have noticed an increasing interest in the JLA methodology in Australia and four of these newly started PSPs are based there.
As our international reach grows, we were excited to welcome Menne Scherpenzeel, based in the Netherlands, as one of our JLA Advisers. It is great to have another JLA Adviser located outside of the UK, and to draw on the experience Menne has to offer whilst increasing the presence of the JLA in the Netherlands.
With a large number of enquiries and new PSPs, we were thrilled to welcome more members to our Coordinating Team to support the work of the JLA.
This year we also launched our new logo. Whilst we may have a fresh new look, we continue to champion the same JLA principles of equal involvement, inclusivity, transparency and a commitment to using and contributing to the evidence base. We are so grateful to be approached by people who share our values. PSPs are led by people who are passionate about ensuring the people most affected by research have a say in what is researched in the future. Thank you to all the Steering Groups that make PSPs happen.
We can’t wait to see what next year has to offer, and to share more great news with you all!
Wishing all the best for 2025,
Your JLA Team.
