James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) facilitate patients, carers and health professionals to work collaboratively to identify research priorities in particular areas of health and care. Their aim is to ensure that health research funders are aware of the issues that are important to the people who need to use the research in their daily lives. In order to enable research into these identified priorities, the NIHR offers research funding through a Rolling Funding Opportunity, in which funding rounds will re-open shortly after the previous round closes.
The JLA Rolling Funding Opportunity (formerly the JLA Rolling Call) has recently been expanded to include four additional NIHR Funding Programmes. Invention for Innovation (i4i), Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB), Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR) and Research Programme for Social Care (RPSC) have joined the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME), Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR), Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Public Health Research (PHR) Programmes. This means 8 NIHR Funding Programmes recognise the importance of the research priorities identified by JLA PSPs and provide the opportunity for high-quality applications that address them.
Proposals must be within the remit of one of the participating research programmes and the primary outcome measure must be health related.
