Addiction Healthcare Goals
About this Priority Setting Partnership
The Addiction Healthcare Goals programme, led by the Office for Life Sciences, is working with the James Lind Alliance to enable healthcare professionals, people with experience of addictions or who use alcohol or drugs problematically, carers and families, to work together to identify and prioritise the questions for future research that will make the most difference to people. We aim to identify important questions for future research regarding harm reduction, treatment of, and recovery from addictions from the perspective of those who are expert by experience, and professionals.
The priorities for future research identified will be available for a range of organisations which fund research, to inform their research funding strategies.
We are aware of the numerous terms used for those people experiencing addictions. For the purpose of this PSP we will use the term people with experience of/or experiencing addiction or people with experience of drug and alcohol problems.
The next stage of the Addictions Healthcare Goals Priority Setting Partnership
Thank you for responding to our first survey on addictions.
We have reviewed all the responses received, checked which are already answered by research, and formed a shortlist of questions which, if answered by research, would help improve the lives of people with addictions, their families, friends, and carers.
What are we asking you to do now?
We would now like your help prioritising these questions for future research. Your contributions will lead to a published “Top 10” list of priorities for research into Addiction. Researchers will be encouraged to set up projects to help answer the questions.
Please support this priority setting partnership by:
- Filling in the online survey by Sunday 23rd February 2025, telling us the 10 most important questions on the list in your experience
- Encouraging other people with lived experience of addiction, their friends, family members, carers, and health professionals to fill in the survey.
The survey closes on Sunday 23rd February 2025.
Many thanks for your support. With your help we can work towards getting the most important questions answered and improving quality of life for people with addiction and their families.
