Sands, the UK charity offering support for bereaved parents and their families, has launched a call for applications to its Research Fund, with particular emphasis on the priority areas identified by the James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) in Stillbirth. These were the most important areas for future research chosen by parents, charities, and healthcare professionals.

Sands directly funds scientific research that has potential to make a significant impact on reducing the numbers of babies who are stillborn or die neonatally, or to improve care for families when a baby dies.

The charity funds research focusing on:

  • understanding the causes of stillbirth and neonatal death
  • identifying pregnancies at risk of perinatal deaths and improving interventions to manage those pregnancies
  • optimising bereavement care.

For more information about how to apply for the research funding, please see https://www.sands.org.uk/about-sands/our-work/apply-research-funding. Outline applications must be received by 09:00 hours on Monday 18 July.
