The purpose of this Question Verification Form is to enable Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) to describe clearly how they checked that their questions were unanswered, before starting the interim prioritisation stage of the process.
The JLA requires PSPs to be transparent and accountable in defining their own scope and evidence checking process. This will enable researchers and other stakeholders to understand how individual PSPs decided that their questions were unanswered, and any limitations of their evidence checking.
Name of the PSP
The top ten priorities in adults living with type 1 diabetes in Ireland and the United Kingdom
Please describe the scope of the PSP
The scope of the type 1 diabetes mellitus in adults PSP is defined as:
- adults with type 1 diabetes (aged 18 and over), their families, carers, friends and those involved in their care
- the cause, prevention, diagnosis (including misdiagnosis and those who may have had a diagnosis re-classified or altered), screening, prevention, precipitating factors, treatment and management of type 1 diabetes and its complications from patient and clinical perspectives. The type 1 diabetes PSP will focus on type 1 diabetes and its complications, but questions related to other conditions may be submitted where they are relevant in the context of type 1 diabetes.
- physical, social, cultural, economic and psychological aspect
- information, education and service improvement
- within the UK and Republic of Ireland
Please provide a brief overview of your approach to checking whether the questions were unanswered
Given the broad scope of our PSP, we took a broad approach to checking uncertainties, identifying literature above systematic reviews and current and previous trials. We checked guidelines from both the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Please list the type(s) of evidence you used to verify your questions as unanswered
Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, national and international guidelines, registered systems for systematic review
Please list the sources that you searched in order to identify that evidence
COCHRANE; PubMed; EMBASE; CENTRAL; PROSPERO; Clinicaltrials.gov; NICE, HSE, SIGN, ADA and EASD guidelines; Google scholar and Google
What search terms did you use?
Type 1 diabetes, type 1 diabetes mellitus, T1D, T1DM, type 1 d
Please describe the parameters of the search (eg time limits, excluded sources, country/language) and the rationale for any limitations
We searched for articles published in English as there was no funding allocated to professional translational services. We searched systematic reviews from 2020 onwards due to the recent and rapid developments in type 1 diabetes care. For guidelines was used Irish, UK and European guidelines but we also incorporated US based guidelines as many are followed internationally and there is a focused effort to establish EU/USA guidelines for many conditions in diabetes.
