The purpose of this Question Verification Form is to enable Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) to describe clearly how they checked that their questions were unanswered, before starting the interim prioritisation stage of the process.
The JLA requires PSPs to be transparent and accountable in defining their own scope and evidence checking process. This will enable researchers and other stakeholders to understand how individual PSPs decided that their questions were unanswered, and any limitations of their evidence checking.
Name of the PSP
Medically Not Yet Explained Symptoms (MNYES) Priority Setting Partnership
Please describe the scope of the PSP
The scope of the MNYES PSP is defined as:
- Aetiology, diagnosis and treatment/care of patients with MNYES in the UK and Netherlands, as well as organisation of services, social consequences and long-term outcomes including cost implications for patients.
- International exchange and exploration.
- Confirmed topics include (but are not limited to): pain, fatigue, dizziness, functional neurological disorder, bowel symptoms, palpitations and syncope.
- Ages 16 and older are included.
Fatigue is in scope but Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is out of scope as there is another PSP which is addressing this.
Please provide a brief overview of your approach to checking whether the questions were unanswered
Searches of research evidence and clinical guidelines, written in English, will be reviewed to understand whether identified questions have already been answered. Questions have been developed through a process of reviewing and summarising individual responses from the initial survey.
Please list the type(s) of evidence you used to verify your questions as unanswered
Systematic reviews
Clinical guidelines (international guidelines will be included if presented in written English as no UK-specific guidelines are available at present).
Please list the sources that you searched in order to identify that evidence
Cochrane Library, Medline, PsycInfo, Google Scholar
